Self Care Tips for children and young people

As we come to the end of Children of Foster Families Month we just want to give you, the amazing children of our foster families, a massive shout out and say thank you for all that you do!

You make Chrysalis a truly special place! We admire and appreciate everything you have done, how you have welcomed children into your homes, made sacrifices and shared your family. You are making such a huge difference to their lives.

While we know that being part of a family who fosters can be rewarding and fun, it can also come with it’s challenges. This can take it’s toll on our mental and physical well-being if we aren’t careful to fill up our cups with things that give us energy and joy. This is what grown ups refer to as ‘self care’.

Self Care and Self Love is important for children and young people too!

Here are some things that you can do to take care of YOU, because you are precious and valuable!

Make a welcoming space just for you!

Do you have a space you can go to to relax & recharge? Maybe you could give your bedroom a tidy or make it cosy for autumn/winter by adding some nice cushions and blankets.

Fill up your cup!

What activities do you love doing? Take time to plan in things that bring you joy – like playing your favourite sport, having a pamper session or doing some crafts or baking.

Spend time with your favourite people!

Who do you love spending time with that makes you feel good about yourself? Plan some quality with your best friends or favourite relatives. Sharing quality time and laughter is so important for connection and emotional well being.

Plan some time with your mum or dad!

What are some of your favourite times that you’ve spent with your parents? Plan some special activities just for you and them. It’s so important that you get some quality time and they will love it too!

Nourish to flourish!

We all feel better when we eat food that’s good for us, move our bodies, drink lots of water and get enough sleep. Could you try and help your mum and dad cook a new healthy recipe this month? How can you look after yourself to feel good?
